September 2015 TBR

September is right around the corner, but along with September comes school. I am going into my first semester of college starting on Monday, August 31st. I am taking the majority of my classes online, so my schedule will be a little more open than if I had to go to campus every day.

That being said, I really have no clue how much time I will have for reading in the coming month. I am going to stick with setting my TBR at 8 books. I finished (projected because there is still a couple days left) 10 books in August, so I think 8 is a reasonable goal.

The books I am planning on reading are:

This TBR is stacked with books that I know are well loved, along with some very anticipated new releases. I am so excited to get to all of them. City of Bones is a reread for me. The first time I read it I didn’t like it at all and never continued with the series. I am going to reread it so that I can give the rest of the series a chance because I heard it gets better!

Let me know in the comments if I am reading one of your favorite books this month!

Follow my progress throughout the month on my Goodreads! I also post frequently on both my Twitter and Instagram accounts (both @PlanAndRead)!

My August Wrap Up will be posted within the next couple of days!

Bout Of Books 14!

This is my official announcement post that I will be participating in Bout of Books again this time around!

If you haven’t heard of Bout of Books before, your time is now. To me, this is one of the most classic read-a-thon’s in the community. It is something I have been participating in since I first got involved in the book community in 2013. You can sign up for Bout of Books until Tuesday at 11:59pm CST.

This round is happening from Monday the 17th until Sunday the 23rd. There is a schedule posted with information for the challenges each day and also information about Twitter happenings and even upcoming read-a-thons.

For me, this is a very laid back read-a-thon. It is just a fun time reading with some fun people! I will be participating the most on my Twitter account @PlanAndRead. I have never participated in any of the challenges before because I didn’t have a blog, or anywhere to really post my responses. I may be doing some this time around, we’ll see how my week plays out.

I will be continuing my planned reading for the month, which is some pretty chunky novels. That being said, my wish is to finish 2 books.

-Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

-The Young Elites by Marie Lu

I really hope that if you are reading this and have never participated in this read-a-thon to try it out! I’d love to see you all around for some Twitter sprints and to see your challenge posts!

#0by16 Update – August

When I posted about a month ago that I was participating in #0by16, I had about 40 books on my shelves. Like I said then, my goal is not actually 0 books. I am shooting for less than 10!

So how much progress have I made? I have bought books, but I’ve really been focusing on getting through some of the books I own. I am currently down to 33 unread books on my shelf.

I am anticipating that this coming month I will not be making as much progress. I am really trying to focus on getting through series, which (un)fortunately means I have to buy a lot of sequels and such. I think that even still, I will be making progress and still on track to reach my goal.

Are you still reaching for goals you made at the beginning of the year? Have you made new goals? Let me know in the comments!

Rereading in 2015

This year I have been rereading books more than ever before, and I am completely enjoying it. I made it a goal for myself at the beginning of the year to reread 5 books. I did this because sometimes I find it hard to read something again, when I feel like I have so many new things I want to read. The reality of it is though, that rereading something I love is one of the most rewarding feelings, and I also seem to find things that I missed, or forgot, from the first time I read the book.

I have surpassed my goal of rereading 5 books and I am currently at 7 books reread this year. I will admit that all of these books are part of series. I have either reread to refresh my memory before continuing on, or to refresh my memory before a movie came out. So, I want to put in words right here that I want to start rereading more stand-alones!

I want to reread more books simply because I love the book. I want to reread more things like Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell, or The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I’m not catching up on series, and I didn’t forget what happens in these books, I just love the stories.

So here’s to the continuation of my rereading, a little amped up. It’s not taking a step back on my to be read list, it’s expanding my love for novels.

What book could you read over and over and over again? (series or stand-alone!)

My Typical Reading Day

I am an early riser, I usually get up right around 8am and get rolling. I’ll get up, shower, eat some breakfast, and settle back down into my room.

I like to start the day off by watching a few BookTube videos, just to wake myself up a bit before I get started on my book for the day.

I’ve discussed before that I am a slower reader and I read a little choppy, I usually read a chapter or two at a time and then I’ll take a break. During these breaks I’ll usually, watch a video, read a blog post, check my Twitter feed, etc..

So I’ll sit down for a repetitious cycle of reading and breaks for about 3 hours before I’m ready for a real break. I’ll get up and eat lunch, do a couple things around the house, run errands for a few hours before I come back and settle back into my pattern.

I’ll get a couple of more hours of reading done before I go to work. I work at 4pm at my current job and I’ll be there for anywhere from 3 – 8 hours before I get off.

If I get home at a decent time I will usually sit back down when I get home and read until I’m ready to go to sleep, which is usually around 10:30 or 11pm.

I’ve seen a few people post these short summaries about how their usual reading day goes and I thought it would be fun to share. Tell me what your typical reading day is like in the comments below and I’d love to read more of these on your blogs!

August 2015 TBR: BINGO

I’m doing my TBR a little differently this month. Usually I pick a set of 6-9 books and just strictly try to read those. This month, I have picked 24 books. I don’t plan on reading that may but it’s leaving my options a little more open!

I have set these 24 books up in a Bingo card.

IMG_3817

I have set up prizes that I will reward myself with for different Bingo’s I get!

1) BINGO! – Purchase 1 book

2) 4 Corners – Purchase 2 books

3) Second Bingo – EC Horizontal Planner (school planner)

4) Third Bingo – EC Notebook

5) Fourth Bingo – Horizontal Planner Stickers

6) Blackout – EC Carry-All Clutch

These prizes aren’t set up by price value, they are set up by what I am I wishing for the most.

I’m making this a little tricky for myself though. Instead of picking what books I want to read next, I am using a random number generator to pick for me! This will make getting a Bingo a little more difficult.

Here’s the list of books on my Bingo card! Listed from left to right:

Line 1

– Crown of Midnight by Sarah. J Maas, Throne of Glass #2 (reread)

– The Girl in 6E by A.R. Torre, Deanna Madden #1

– Do Not Disturb by A.R. Torre, Deanna Madden #2

– Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass #3 (reread)

– Fairest by Marissa Meyer, The Lunar Chronicles #3.5

Line 2

– Stay With Me by J. Lynn, Wait for You #3

– Cress by Marissa Meyer, The Lunar Chronicles #3

– Saga, Volume 2

– Hollow City by Ransom Riggs, Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children #2

– Mr Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore y Robin Sloan

Line 3

– The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson and the Olympians #2

– Another Day by David Levithan, Every Day #2

– Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins, Anna and the French Kiss #3

– The Walking Dead, Vol. 07: The Calm Before

Line 4

– The Young Elites by Marie Lu, The Young Elites #1

– Blood Promise by Richelle Mead, Vampire Academy #4

– Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children: The Graphic Novel

– Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

– Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson, Reckoner’s #1

Line 5

– Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead, Vampire Academy #3

– Firefight by Brandon Sanderson, Reckoner’s #2

– The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

– The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson and the Olympians #1

– Noggin by John Corey Whaley

Now that’s a list of books!

I’m giving myself two options when I use the number generator so I got an 18 and a 20 the first time I tried. This left with me with the option to either read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen or Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead. I decided to go with Shadow Kiss because the beginning of the series is still fresh in my mind!

I think realistically I’ll be able to read 7-9 books this month. Hopefully this whole process made sense to everyone. Just trying to spice things up a little more over here.

Has anyone else ever done this? Would you consider it?

#TBRTakedown Wrap Up

2) Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. Finished on Day 7. 4/5 stars.

July 2015 Wrap Up

I was consistently reading this past month! Finally! I tend to go in and out of my reading groove. I may have had limited time for reading, but I was finishing books on a pretty solid schedule . I noticed this month that Tuesday’s are my day to finish books. I finished a book every single Tuesday, with a couple other thrown in there. This must say something about how my reading time is distributed throughout a normal week!

I finished a total of 7 books in July. All of these books listed will be linked to their respective Goodreads pages and rated on a 5 star scale.

1) Wait for You by J. Lynn. Finished July 4th. 3 stars.

2) Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Finished July 7th. 5 stars.

3) Scarlet by Marissa Meyer. Finished July 12th. 5 stars.

4) Frostbite by Richelle Mead. Finished July 14th. 4 stars.

5) Be with Me by J. Lynn. Finished July 21st. 5 stars.

6) Vicious by V.E. Schwab. Finished July 28th. 4 stars.

7) Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. Finished July 31st. 4 stars.

I read a total of 2,593 pages and had an average rating of 4.2!
