A Brief Series Update: April 2016

While I am still reading and completing books at a snails pace, I have made some minuscule progress since updated in February.

My goal for 2016 was to catch up and complete as many series as I possibly could, I started keeping this running tally at the beginning of the year to keep myself accountable (which has obviously been going so fantastic!). Kidding aside, I have made some progress and am determined to continue making progress.

I have completed 4 books since my previous update, 3 of which were parts of series!

Winter by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles, #4)

Hollow City by Ransom Riggs (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children, #2). DNF, page 102.

Reviving Izabel by J.A. Redmerski (In the Company of Killers, #2)

Yearly Tally

Complete series – 0 (ouch, this one stings)

Series installments – 7

Started new series – 2

Those series installments are all getting me closer I would just like to see the completed series going up. I didn’t count Winter as the last book in the Lunar chronicles because I am going to count it once I finish Stars Above. I am so close!

Looking forward to updating again once I have made more progress! Cross your fingers that I am able to complete one (or two!) series by the next go around!

Want to Read: April 2016

I was finally able to start reading again towards the end of March so I’m really excited to be back in my groove! That being said, I have fallen behind majorly on all of my goals for 2016, can I catch up? I’m going to try.

Here’s what I’ve got my eye on for the coming month!

  • Reviving Izabel by J.A. Redmerski (In the Company of Killers, #2)
  • Nimona by Noelle Stevenson
  • UnBound by Neal Shusterman (Unwind Dystology, novellas)
  • Passenger by Alexandra Bracken (Passenger, #1)
  • The Selection by Kiera Cass (The Selection, #1)
  • Stars Above by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles, novellas)
  • The Young Elites by Marie Lu (The Young Elites, #1)
  • If You Dare by A.R. Torre (Deanna Madden, #3)
  • Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi (Under the Never Sky, #1)
  • The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick
  • Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson (Steelheart, #1)

This list should make my series update in the middle of the month a little more interesting! I’m ready to get rolling!

I skipped a wrap up for March because the only thing I finished was Winter by Marissa Meyer, which I gave 4 stars. If you want to see all my reading updates add me on Goodreads! My username is Bailey Blicken, or it is linked on my blog!

Here’s to a good reading month!

Slay That Series TBR

For information on the Slat That Series read-a-thon watch this video made by one of the creators, Sara.

The read-a-thon’s purpose is to essentially read books from series and “slay” them. You can read an entire series, catch up on multiple series, or start new a few new series if you want. As long as you are reading series installments and not stand-alone’s you’re doing this right!

I’m going to try to be realistic here with this TBR so here’s my plans.

  1. Finish Winter by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles, #4), currently reading and I know I won’t be finished by the time this read-a-thon starts on Sunday!
  2. Reviving Izabel by J.A. Redmerski (In the Company of Killers, #2)
  3. The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness (Chaos Walking, #1)

Those are my realistic goals, here’s some extra’s in case I am really slaying next week!

  • Fall with Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Wait for You, #4)
  • Destroy Me by Tahereh Mafi (Shatter Me, #1.5)
  • You by Caroline Kepnes (You, #1)

I will be posting updates and following the read-a-thon mainly on my twitter @PlanAndRead, also linked on this site. Expect an update at the end of the read-a-thon on here as well!

Let’s Discuss: Coming Back After a Break

I haven’t been keeping up on blogging or reading during about the past month and a half. I have talked about why, I moved out of my parent house and into a place with my boyfriend, and I have also switched from part-time to full-time at my job.

I don’t want to talk about why I was gone and make up excuses as much as I want to talk about what it’s like trying to get back into the swing of things in a new place and with a new schedule.

Whenever I take a break for reasons in my personal life or simply because I am in a reading slump, it feels strange coming back. I always feel like I missed something and like I’m out of my circles all of a sudden, which is never true. We all take breaks and everyone is usually just happy to see their blogging friends come back. I’m still going through that chunk of time where I’m trying to read blogs again and comment as much as I can!

The other thing I’m dealing with is I wasn’t reading a ton while I was gone therefore I don’t have a lot to discuss or post about for the time being even though I am back. I have been working my way through Winter by Marissa Meyer and I still have 600+ pages to go before I finish it! So while I am reading more now than I was when I was moving, it’s still going to be a hot minute before I wrap that one up and can get back to a normal finishing pace.

It’s tough coming to the realization that my goals I set at the beginning of the year and am still trying to reach for are going to be a real struggle to meet now. The setback has been getting my motivation down a little but I am determined to slowly catch up, majority of this catching up probably won’t be able to happen until the summer when my classes are over still.

Mostly I just want you guys to know that I am back, I am reading, and I am looking forward to talking about books again with this community!

If you want to follow more of my progress add me on Goodreads, Bailey Blicken, and follow me on Instagram @PlanAndRead. They are linked on my page if you need to find them!

See you soon, xoxo.

Want to Read: March 2016

I am behind on my Goodreads challenge of 100 books already but that’s not going to stop me! I am 9 books behind schedule (ha!) and hope to end the month being 8 or less books behind.

Here’s what’s on my radar this month!

  • Winter by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles, #4)
  • Reviving Izabel by J.A. Redmerski (In the Company of Killers, #2)
  • Confess by Colleen Hoover
  • The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness (Chaos Walking, #1)
  • Fall with Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Wait for You, #4)
  • Destroy Me by Tahereh Mafi (Shatter Me, #1.5)
  • You by Caroline Kepnes (You, #1)
  • The Young Elites by Marie Lu (The Young Elites, #1)
  • Summer’s Child by Diane Chamberlain
  • The Selection by Kiera Cass (The Selection, #1)

Wrap Up: February 2016

Get ready for my pathetic wrap up.

I’m not ashamed of this at all. I said before that I was moving at the end of the month and I also switched to full time at my job. I am almost settled now and have been reading more at the beginning of March but lets reflect on February!

I read 2 books (graphic novel & DNF)!

  1. The Walking Dead, Vol. 9: Here We Remain by Robert Kirkman. 4 stars.
  2. Hollow City by Ransom Riggs (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children, #2). DNF.

That gave me a total of 235 pages and an average rating of 2.5 stars.

Like I said, March is already going better for me and I will be coming right back with a more promising TBR.

Series Update: February 2016

My main goal for 2016 is to catch up on as many series as possible. This is my update for the last month, I didn’t read a ton but I’m working on it!

I have completed 4 books since my last update in January, 3 of these books were part of series.

Completed series – 0

Series installments – 2

Fairest by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5)

The Walking Dead, Vol. 9: Here We Remain

Started new series – 1

Killing Sarai by J.A. Redmerski (In the Company of Killers, #1)

Yearly Tally

Completed series – 0

Series installments – 4

Started new series – 2

Again, the whole goal is to complete series which means I need to step it up this coming month. I am in the middle of a lot of series, meaning I have more than just one book left to read to complete them, so the series installments are getting me much closer.

I hope only start one new series, complete at least 2 series, and read 4 installments by the next update. Wish me luck!

Currently reading Winter by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles, #4)

Want to Read: February 2016

I think everything is going to be stacked against my reading schedule this month with moving, school, and the fact that it’s a short month so take all of this information lightly!

Here’s what I’ve got my eye on the most this month:

  • The Walking Dead, Vol. 9: Here We Remain by Robert Kirkman
  • Winter by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles, #4)
  • The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken (The Darkest Minds, #1) (reread)
  • Passenger by Alexandra Bracken
  • Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead (Vampire Academy, #5)
  • Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead (Vampire Academy, #6)

I’ve already got my nose in Winter which is a massive book and I’d be glad just getting through that! Are you sticking to your 2016 goals so far this year?

Wrap Up: January 2016

The end of this month really snuck up on me. I started my blogging year strong and have now been absent for a week or two. My boyfriend and I have been searching for our first rental house and we found one and now we’re in the process of getting everything together to move! We move in March 1st so I’m not making any promises for my activity on this site for February or early March!

That being said, I had a really good reading month in January and I’m so excited to share it with you!

I read a total of 6 books

  1. Do Not Disturb by A.R. Torre (Deanna Madden, #2). 4 stars.
  2. Keeping Her by Cora Carmack (Losing It, #1.5). 3 stars.
  3. Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins (Rebel Belle, #1). 4 stars.
  4. You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero. 2 stars.
  5. Killing Sarai by J.A. Redmerski (In the Company of Killers, #1). 5 stars.
  6. Fairest by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5). 5 stars.

I read a total of 1,590 pages and had an average rating of 3.8 stars.

If you want to see some of my thoughts on these books check out my earlier posts January 2016 – Part 1 and January 2016 – Part 2.

I will have my February TBR posted as soon as I can get it together, for sure in the next week. I hope you all had a great January, but if you didn’t it’s not too late to make it a great year!

Wrap Up: January 2016 – Part 2

My quick thoughts on the books I read the second half of January!

You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

I got this book as a gift from my sister and is very much a book that she would enjoy herself. She loves reading self-help books and we have talked about how it’s just not what I’m most interested in. That being said I just felt like this book wasn’t for me. I ended up giving it 2 stars. If you are a fan of self-help you would probably enjoy this so much more. (If you’re reading this Erika you can borrow it and read it if you still want to!!)

Killing Sarai by J.A. Redmerski (In the Company of Killers, #1)

I loved this book so much! I decided to read this when Lainey and Riley created their group to read along with the series. If you’re interested in the series you can still jump in, they’re reading it through March! Here’s the group! This first book was all about Sarai trying to escape from the drug lord she has been with since she was young. The person she ends up with ends up showing her a lot about the dangerous world she has been involved in. That’s probably not the best description but TRUST ME PLEASE, this book was amazing! 5 stars!!

Fairest by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5)

This novella is all about our villain Queen Levana. It was interesting and gave a lot of insight but in no way made me feel bad or sympathize with her. It was great backstory and it kept me hooked and my love for this series as a whole continues with this 5 star installment. This also gave us information on who Winter is which really just got me more excited to finally get to the final book!

I’ll catch you up on my entire January wrap up and stats in my full monthly wrap up shortly!

If you’ve read any of these books please discuss with me in the comments!
